Extraordinary 320-layer Damascus steel from the armor plates of the capsized German battleship Tirpitz.
This non-stainless, high-alloy steel was recovered by a Norwegian and German company in 1948-57 at the wreckage site. It is being used for scientific purposes as well as for space travel.
The Damascus steel for this knife was manufactured by Markus Balbach, a renown German blacksmith, and was folded into 320 layers by using an long-established forge welding method.
The balanced handle with one finger groove has an excellent grip, even in the cold or when wearing gloves.
The ferrules are made of nickel silver and the handle itself is made of cocobolo wood.
Cocobolo is a very hard, fine textured and dense tropical wood, standing up well to repeated handling and exposure to moisture. Its natural oil content circumvents the need for the wood to be stabilized while at the same time imparting durability.
The sheath is made of traditionally-crafted hand-stitched saddle leather. Solely plant-based substances are used during the tanning process. Each knife is unique and comes with its own serial number and is delivered with a certificate of authenticity for the Tirpitz steel.
